Jakarta, although parenthood has its own burdens of everyday life, but research shows parents can improve children’s health and the risk of vascular disease.
The researchers from Brigham Young University, the University of Utah and Cal State Long Beach, measure the blood pressure of 198 men and women who married between the ages of 20-68 years.
Blood pressure is measured by movement during the period of 24 hours. Approximately 70 percent of those couples have children of different ages.
Participants use a blood pressure monitor that read randomly all the time, even when participants slept. This is used by researchers to compare the blood pressure of couples who have children with that yet. Since the value of blood pressure can affect a large number of diseases.
Children have parents who found a systolic blood pressure (above figures when the heart contracts) measured 4.5 points lower, and diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number is measured when your heart breaks, or between heart rate) 3 points lower than that couples who have had no children.
While the women have children who show the pressure differential of 12 points systolic and diastolic pressure of 7 points compared with women who had no children.
Researchers found the numbers after taking into account other variables such as age, body weight, physical activity, occupation and smoking or not.
“Blood pressure is lower in people who have a child shows a lack of risk of hypertension or heart-related illnesses such as heart,” said Julianne Holt-Lunstand study of the psychology department Brigham Young University, quoted in the LATimes, Friday (15 / 1 / 2010)
